Bio Products Laboratory needed to optimise and enhance the performance of its utilities infrastructure at its Watford pharmaceuticals manufacturing plant. Power Plan Services hydraulically modelled the complex process which requires air-conditioning to be tightly temperature and humidity controlled. PPS assessed the HVAC chillers and hydraulics and reviewed the four process cooling systems (25°C cooling water, -2°C chilled water, -15°C water/glycol and -27°C water/ethanol). Bottlenecks and system limitations were identified. The hydraulic modelling underpinned the installation of new cooling towers, HVAC chillers replacement and extension of the hydraulics to ensure better system resilience and accommodate future changes in capacity requirements.
